Isaiah 35:5-6a Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. 6 Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy.

Isaiah 42:6-7 “I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, 7 to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.

John 9:1-5 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

Here, we meet a man who was born blind. This man’s life was filled with challenges. He had never seen the faces of his loved ones, couldn’t appreciate the beauty of a sunrise, or even navigate his way around without assistance. His life was a constant struggle, he would sit along the road and beg.

They disciples ask Jesus, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Their question reveals a common misconception of their time, that physical ailments were a direct result of personal sin or the sin of one’s parents.

Ezekiel 18:20 The one who sins is the one who will die. The child will not share the guilt of the parent, nor will the parent share the guilt of the child. The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.

The disciples saw the man born blind and immediately default to their traditions. They were quick to judge, quick to condemn. But Jesus saw something different. He saw an opportunity for God’s work to be displayed. He saw a man in need of healing. (teaching moment)

This difference in perception is striking. The disciples saw a sinner, Jesus saw a person in need. The disciples saw a curse, Jesus saw a chance for God’s glory to be revealed. This difference in perception made all the difference in their actions. The disciples judged; Jesus healed. (perception is everything)

Vs4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. Jesus understood that opportunities for service and doing good don’t last forever. (He knew His time was limited)

(PIC)   John 9:6-12 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing. 8 His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, “Isn’t this the same man who used to sit and beg?” 9 Some claimed that he was. Others said, “No, he only looks like him.” But he himself insisted, “I am the man.” 10 “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked. 11 He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.” 12 “Where is this man?” they asked him. “I don’t know,” he said.

The blind man didn’t question Jesus. He didn’t doubt His ability to heal. He simply obeyed. He went to the Pool of Siloam and washed, just as Jesus had instructed. And his faith was rewarded. His sight was restored.

Faith is not just about believing in God. It’s about trusting in His power, His wisdom, His love. It’s about following His guidance, even when we don’t understand, even when we can’t see the path ahead. It’s about surrendering our doubts, our fears, our need for control, and placing our lives in His hands.

Jesus healed many people: We seen him heal the nobleman’s son, 38 year invalid, Woman with issue of blood; Peters mother in law; men with leprosy; cast out demons; heal the deaf; raised people from the dead; VARYING METHODS

Here Jesus does perhaps one of the strangest things he ever did in a healing.              He spit onto the ground/dirt and made mud and placed it on the eyes of the man. (PIC) But this isn’t strange at all. Not to Jesus…because He has done something like this with dirt before…thousands of years earlier.

John 1:1-3. Genesis 2:7 “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”                 This is not a random act of magical mud healing someone’s eyes. This is the creator of man recreating a broken man. This is what Jesus is…and what Jesus does. Jesus is not only the creator but also the re-creator.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

John 9:13-16a They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. 14 Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath. 15 Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.” 16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.”

Mark 2:27-28 “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not for the people to meet the needs of the Sabbath.

John 9:16b-34 But others asked, “How can a sinner perform such signs?” So they were divided. (Luke 12) 17 Then they turned again to the blind man, “What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened.” The man replied, “He is a prophet.” 18 They still did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight until they sent for the man’s parents. 19 “Is this your son?” they asked. “Is this the one you say was born blind? How is it that now he can see?” 20 “We know he is our son,” the parents answered, “and we know he was born blind. 21 But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself.” 22 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, who already had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be put out of the synagogue. 23 That was why his parents said, “He is of age; ask him.” 24 A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. “Give glory to God by telling the truth,” they said. “We know this man is a sinner.” 25 He replied, “Whether he is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” 26 Then they asked him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” 27 He answered, “I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples too?” 28 Then they hurled insults at him and said, “You are this fellow’s disciple! We are disciples of Moses! 29 We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this fellow, we don’t even know where he comes from.” 30 The man answered, “Now that is remarkable! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes…..

31 We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will. 32 Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. 33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” 34 To this they replied, “You were steeped in sin at birth; how dare you lecture us!” And they threw him out.

The religious leaders, unable to accept the truth of the man’s healing, interrogate him, question his integrity, his sanity, and even his identity. But the man stands firm and testifies to the healing power of Jesus. He said, “One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!”

Still not satisfied. So they bring in the man’s parents to prove that he was never blind. But the parents confirm the man’s identity and his blindness. They can’t explain his healing, but they can’t deny it either. Because the healing power of Jesus is undeniable. It can’t be explained away or rationalized. It is real, and it changes people’s lives.

Can you imagine being thrown out of the fellowship because you encountered Jesus? Can you imagine being put out of the Church because you received a touch, a miracle from Jesus?     (844 You belong to your father, the devil,)

John 9:35-41 Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and when he found him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” 36 “Who is he, sir?” the man asked. “Tell me so that I may believe in him.” 37 Jesus said, “You have now seen him; in fact, he is the one speaking with you.” 38 Then the man said, “Lord, I believe,” and he worshiped him. 39 Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.” 40 Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?” 41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

So, the man is thrown out of the synagogue, but Jesus finds him. Jesus reveals Himself to the man, and the man worships him. Jesus is not just the healer, he is also the one who seeks us out, who reveals himself to us, and who invites us to worship him.

The religious leaders said, “You can’t worship with us at the temple.” Jesus says, “I will receive your worship.”

This is something that no man or angel in the Bible does. The fact that Jesus accepted this worship is another proof that Jesus was and is God.

Vs40b-41 Are we blind too?” 41 Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

Those who are willing to admit their spiritual blindness can find sight in Jesus, they can be forgiven and set free. But, those who falsely claim to have spiritual sight are blind and their sins/guilt remains.

To be so self-deceived and to shut our eyes to the light of the world (Jesus) is a desperate state to be in: the light is here, but if people refuse to open their eyes to it and instead deliberately reject it, how can they be enlightened? As Jesus said, their sin remains.

Spiritual perspective. How we perceive something-Actions

Time is short,

Jesus is the Re-Creator,

Jesus saw a need, met that need and in doing that opened up an opportunity for this man to be saved. Oh that we would have the perception and the heart of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we could through Him Re-Create the world
