Revelation Session 12
February 4, 2026
In Revelation Session 12, Chapter 4:1–6a, the Apostle John is invited into the heavenly realm to witness the glory of God’s throne. This passage introduces a grand vision of celestial worship and divine sovereignty.
John sees a door standing open in heaven. He hears a voice like a trumpet—the same voice from the beginning of his vision—telling him, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this”.
Immediately “in the Spirit,” John beholds a throne in heaven with Someone seated upon it. The One on the throne is described in terms of the brilliance of jasper and carnelian (or sardius) stones. A rainbow that looks like an emerald circles the throne, symbolizing God’s mercy and faithfulness to His covenant.
Surrounding the central throne are twenty-four smaller thrones. Seated on them are twenty-four elders. They are dressed in white garments, representing purity and victory. Each wears a golden crown on their head.
From the throne proceed flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder, evoking the awesome presence of God at Mount Sinai. Before the throne burn seven lamps of fire, which are identified as the seven spirits of God (representing the fullness of the Holy Spirit).
Directly in front of the throne lies what appears to be a sea of glass, as clear as crystal. The “sea of glass” in Revelation 4:6 and 15:2 is a heavenly, transparent, crystal-like expanse before God’s throne, symbolizing divine holiness, absolute purity, and the calm, finished state of creation. It represents the triumph over earthly chaos, separating the Creator from the creation, with later imagery showing it “mixed with fire” (Rev 15:2) to symbolize the purification and victory of the saints.
