Genesis 1:1–26 in the New King James Version (NKJV) records the first six days of creation, culminating in the decision to create humanity.
The History of Creation
This passage describes God’s creation over six days. On the first day, God created light and separated it from darkness, calling them Day and Night. The second day saw the creation of a firmament to separate the waters above and below, which God called Heaven. On the third day, God gathered the waters to create dry land, called Earth, and the gathered waters, called Seas. He also commanded the earth to bring forth vegetation. The fourth day brought the creation of the sun, moon, and stars to serve as lights, signs, seasons, days, and years. On the fifth day, God created sea creatures and birds, blessing them to be fruitful and multiply. The sixth day concludes with God creating land animals and, finally, deciding to create humanity in His image and likeness, giving them dominion over the earth and its creatures.
