Revelation Session 15, Chapter 6 describes the Lamb (Christ) opening the first six of the seven seals on a divine scroll, initiating the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” and a series of cosmic judgments. The chapter progresses from earthly conquest and conflict to martyrdom and, ultimately, to a terrifying universal cataclysm that causes mankind to hide from the “wrath of the Lamb”. As each seal is broken, it triggers a specific event on Earth.
The First Seal: The Conqueror
A white horse appears. Its rider holds a bow and is given a crown. He goes out “conquering and to conquer,” representing military conquest or aggressive expansion.
The Second Seal: Conflict
A fiery red horse emerges. The rider is granted power to “take peace from the earth” and wields a great sword, causing people to kill one another.
The Third Seal: Scarcity
A black horse appears, its rider holding a pair of scales. A voice declares economic hardship: “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius,” signifying famine prices where a day’s wage buys only daily bread.
The Fourth Seal: Widespread Death
A pale horse arrives. Its rider is named Death, and Hades follows him. They are given power over a fourth of the earth to kill with sword, hunger, death, and beasts.
The Fifth Seal: The Cry of Martyrs
The focus shifts to heaven. Souls “slain for the word of God” appear under the altar, crying out, “How long, O Lord?” They are given white robes and told to rest until their number is complete.
The Sixth Seal: Cosmic Collapse
A “great earthquake” occurs. The sun becomes black, the moon becomes like blood, and the “stars of heaven fell to the earth.” The sky recedes like a scroll, prompting mankind to hide in caves and cry out, “For the great day of His wrath has come, and who can stand?”
